WHEN comedian Amy Schumer was mooted to play Barbie in a live action film about the iconic doll, she faced a wave of online abuse over her weight.

But speaking exclusively to today’s You magazine, the American star admits that – despite the furious reaction she received – society’s obsession with thin women is finally fading.

‘I don’t think being rail-thin is the epitome of beauty any more,’ she says. ‘Things are moving in the right direction now that we have women in the spotlight like Kim Kardashian and Ashley Graham who have more voluptuous bodies.’

Although Schumer, 35, dropped out of the Barbie film in March, she says she had no intention of losing weight for the role.

‘People now know that, with those extreme measurements, Barbie wouldn’t have been able to walk,’ she quips.

Despite saying she looks ‘like a Cabbage Patch doll’, Schumer says she has reached a stage where she feels happy about her shape.

‘I love my body now,’ she says. ‘I feel very womanly. And men, I know, want something to hold on to.’

Schumer is dating furniture designer Ben Hanisch and frequently jokes about their relationship on-stage.

Her new film, Snatched – about a trip to South America that goes badly wrong – is released in the UK on Friday. Her co-star is Goldie Hawn and Schumer says she that still ‘can’t believe’ she persuaded the 71-yearold actress to play her on-screen mother.

Schumer, who has won three Emmys for her TV show Inside Amy Schumer, says she was ‘genuinely star struck’ by Goldie. ‘I don’t think there is any funnier actress,’ she says.
