Help! I want to beat summer price surge
Q
WE put off booking a summer holiday and now we’re worried we won’t be able to afford one at all. Prices are going up by the minute. Can you recommend any good offers for a UK break for two adults, two children and a dog. Michael, Reading
A
IT IS peak booking time for summer holidays so a lot of companies may well be increasing prices if demand exceeds supply. However, some firms put on last-minute sales, so stay alert (there are lots of good offers on our classified ad pages).
UK and Ireland cottage specialist Sykes Cottages has just launched its biggest sale yet, slashing the prices of more than 8,000 breaks – it is rare for July and August dates to be so heavily discounted at this time of year. In July, seaside cottages in Cornwall are available from around £700 for seven nights. See sykescottages.co.uk.

WE live in Scotland and I am looking for a long-haul destination that is affordable to fly to from a local airport, to save the hassle of having to travel to London. Harriet, by email

THE website cheapflights. co.uk reckons that flying to Las Vegas, Orlando, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok from Edinburgh or Glasgow is cheaper
than flying from London. It also highlights new routes from Edinburgh and Glasgow as alternative destinations you can consider. Alternatively, an expert travel agency such as Trailfinders (trailfinders.com) can answer your questions directly.

NEXT month, France Break (francebreak.co.uk) is offering seven nights self-catering in the Loire Valley from £114 per person (based on six people), excluding the cost of the ferry crossing. The campsite – Les Alicourts Resort in Pierrefitte – features plenty of outdoor sporting facilities, a playground, kids’ clubs and a water park. Accommodation is in a new three-bedroom, twobathroom Key West mobile home with air-conditioning.
