MEDIC’S ‘FRIENDS IN HIGH PLACES’

THE surgeon, who has not been named, had disclosed his condition – later revealed to be HIV – to Dr Pinion and other senior staff. He was asked to stop carrying out operations which might expose them to infection. Dr Pinion reported him after he continued to perform ‘risky’ procedures. She says he was never properly investigated because he had ‘influential friends’.
