An £8k house? No, it’s the barbie even OUR summers can’t ruin

- By Valerie Elliott

IT IS a quintessential part of the British summer – struggling with a barbecue in a torrential downpour.

Yet now the solution to rainsodden bangers is here – at least for those with deep pockets.

Going on sale at the Chelsea Flower Show this week is a ‘grill cabin’. Costing from £7,645, the souped-up shed looks like a fairytale cottage and has been designed to host barbecues whatever the weather.

Inside, the hexagonal hut, which is 9½ft wide, can accommodate ten guests on benches around a central grill, cooking your meats over charcoal or wood flame.

A chimney on top of the steeppitched roof removes smoke from the cabin, while people inside are protected from the elements bywalls made from spruce boards.

If that’s not enough to keep them warm, the hut even comes with two deer hides to complete the Scandinavian effect. And this is the smallest of the range offered byMalvern Garden Buildings: the biggest can seat 21 guests and starts at an eye-watering £11,945.

Extravagant garden outbuildings appear to be all the rage, with David Cameron recently buying a £25,000 shepherd’s hut as a ‘man cave’ for his Oxfordshire home.

The Queen will open the Chelsea show tomorrow with Prince Philip and the Duchess of Cambridge.
