Rangers must improve fast, declares Holt

- By Fraser Mackie

FAILING to record victories in at least half of their Ladbrokes Premiership games is just one of the statistics that damns the performance of Rangers this season, according to Jason Holt.

Rangers have won 18 of their 37 matches so far ahead of today’s trip to St Johnstone — a side they have drawn twice against and recorded a late 3-2 success over at Ibrox.

‘Last season everything was great for us because we were winning the majority of our games and achieving our targets,’ said Holt. ‘This season has been the complete opposite.

‘It was well documented we wanted to challenge Celtic and finish solidly in second. We’ve not achieved that. The expectations are what they are at this club, they won’t change.

‘We just need to meet them. You must give credit to Celtic because they have been outstanding this season.

‘They’re one game away from finishing the season unbeaten, so you have to take your hat off sometimes. Also, Celtic have been playing European football for a number of years now.

‘We’ve not played to our standards. The targets were set for us at the start of the season and we failed to achieve them.

‘We won fewer than half our games. That’s nowhere near good enough. We must perform a lot better next season.’
