Spence treble in vain as Brechin head on up

-

ALLOA striker Greig Spence helped himself to a hat-trick but still ended up on on the losing side as Brechin won the Championship Play-off final.

Spence (pictured) scored three times to earn the Wasps a 4-3 win in 90 minutes that triggered extra time.

Dylan Mackin was Alloa’s other scorer, while Brechin’s goals came from James Dale, Paul McLean and Liam Watt.

Spence, who had netted from the spot in the first half, became a penalty sinner in the shoot-out when his effort was saved.

Andy Jackson also missed for Brechin but Ian Flannigan’s sudden-death failure proved crucial as City earned promotion. FORFAR marched into League One after putting Peterhead to the sword in the Playoff final second leg.

Leading 2-1 from the first match, the visitors broke the deadlock at Balmoor when Lewis Milne fired home.

David Cox doubled the lead, before Danny Denholm and Aiden Malone struck.

Scott Brown notched a consolation for the home side, but Josh Peters made it a fivestar Loons peformance.
