Griffiths best off at Celtic Park
LEIGH GRIFFITHS should take one look around Celtic Park this afternoon and remind himself that life is unlikely to get any better than this.
Part of a squad destined to go an entire domestic season unbeaten and aiming at the Champions League, preparing to lead the line in the quest for a Treble in the cup final, and looking forward to being Scotland’s main man against England at Hampden next month.
These should be golden times for the 26-year-old. However, there is the sense that, no matter how he has defied the odds and the challenges to his place in the squad, there is a fragility in his relationship with Brendan Rodgers that may lead to a permanent fracture before long.
Griffiths is a good player and a truly lethal finisher, but he has to cut out the petulance and keep striving to be the No 1 striker. Even if he fails, being No2 to Moussa Dembele is hardly a bad position at a club which needs to utilise its whole squad over a season.
There would be takers should Griffiths become available. Some might guarantee him a start. The problem is that none of them would offer what Celtic can right now.
