WHO MADE A CASE TO START THE FIRST TEST?

- Compiled by Sam Peters

STUART HOGG

Desperately unlucky to be forced off with nasty head injury after being hit by Murray’s elbow.

GEORGE NORTH

Struggled to make an impact as the ball rarely found its way to the right and he did not go looking for work.

JONATHAN DAVIES

Another injury concern for the Lions after appearing to suffer concussion in first-half collision.

BEN TE’O

A couple of telling carries but handling let him down on occasions as back-play was stilted.

LIAM WILLIAMS

Lacked conviction chasing high ball following yellow card against Blues. Not enough to lock down Test spot.

OWEN FARRELL

Composed and precise with his distribution. Impressed at fly half before moving to inside centre.

CONOR MURRAY

Assured and low on errors making strong case for Test starting spot. Box-kicking on money as usual.

MAKO VUNIPOLA

Went backwards in a couple of first-half scrums but found his feet and contributed superbly in loose.

JAMIE GEORGE

Some effective carrying and tidy set-piece work puts pressure on Ken Owens for Test place.

TADGH FURLONG

Solid at the scrum and strong with ball in hand. Another who made strong case for Test inclusion.

ALUN WYN JONES

One his best performances of the year when it counted. Led well as Lions recorded important win.

GEORGE KRUIS

Outstanding display. Stood toe-totoe with opposite man Whitelock with superb lineout contribution.

PETER O’MAHONY

Never tired and showed his abrasive side throughout as the tourists’ pack bared their teeth.

SEAN O’BRIEN

A couple of powerful carries and decent work at breakdown. Impressive physicality.

TAULUPE FALETAU

Some excellent carrying and defence to make Test inclusion certain after strong opening.

SUBSTITUTES

Anthony Watson (for Hogg 19) took chance superbly, showing pace and good position to make strong Test claim. Jonathan

Sexton (for Davies 29) teamed up well with Farrell in midfield as he produced his best display of tour. In contention. CJ Stander (for O’Brien 55) dropped possible tryscoring chance but otherwise solid. I✘n contention. Jack McGrath (for Vunipola 61) held his side of the scrum up well. In contention. Maro

Itoje (for Kruis 61) performed the role he’ll probably fill in Tests.

Ken Owens (for George 66) tidy contribution from probable Test starter. Dan Cole (for Furlong 66) did a job for his team. In contention. ✘ NO CASE ✔ IN CONTENTION ✔✔ PUSHED TEST CASE
