No wonder Demelza is smiling... Poldark’s finally got his shirt off
WE ALL knew it wouldn’t last.
Poldark star Aidan Turner achieved the nigh-unthinkable feat of keeping his chest covered for the first episode of the new series last week – much to the chagrin of his adoring female fans.
But those left yearning for a glimpse of his well-toned torso will have their prayers answered tonight, as heart-throb Turner finally sheds his shirt.
The scene comes as hero Captain Ross Poldark shares an intimate moment with his wife Demelza after putting their troubles, including his affair with Elizabeth Warleggan, behind them. Turner’s scene with co-star Eleanor Tomlinson will come as a relief for viewers hoping for a repeat of the classic moment from the first series, in which the actor whips off his top to wield a scythe.
Some of Poldark’s 5.5million fans voiced their disquiet at the fact that Turner, 33, remained fully dressed for the opening episode of series three last Sunday.
One tweeted: ‘That was a full 60 minutes without Ross taking his shirt off. Mugged.’
Another added: ‘Just seen that rarest of things – an episode where Poldark keeps his shirt on.’
Last week’s episode ended with Warleggan giving birth to a boy and speculation over the child’s paternity immediately raged as Elizabeth had shared a night of passion with Poldark before her wedding to Ross’s nemesis, wicked businessman George.
Many viewers thought the new arrival was obviously Poldark’s son, with one writing: ‘What’s the betting Elizabeth’s baby is born with abs, tussled black hair and a mini scythe?’
Poldark continues on BBC1 at 9pm tonight.
