IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT THE MONEY FOR ROBERTSON AT INVERNESS

- By Jim Black

JOHN ROBERTSON is resigned to trying to restore Inverness Caley Thistle’s top-flight status on a shoestring budget.

Thirteen years after leading Inverness to the promised land of the Premiership, his second spell as manager promises to be at least as challenging.

But he insists his bid to guide the Highlanders back up at the first attempt will not simply come down to money.

‘If it was purely down to finance, then Dundee United would have an edge, with a bigger fan base and the potential of a sell-on clause for Andy Robertson to give them spending power,’ he said.

‘But we saw United come out and say they would have to make severe cuts if they didn’t go up.

‘You have ten teams, eight full-time with Dumbarton and Brechin who always punch above their weight, and there’s very little difference in the finances.

‘It comes down to who can find quality and who can achieve a higher percentage fitness and strengthwise. And belief is also massive in this league.’
