Eugenie begs the Queen for a Glasto pass

-

IT SEEMS Glastonbury has one VERY committed Royal fan.

Princess Eugenie was so desperate to go that she went to the extraordinary length of pleading with the Queen for permission to miss the last day of Ascot.

Luckily for her, Royal consent was granted – and delighted Eugenie, 27, was able to pick up her festival pass and head off to Somerset.

Eugenie was at Glastonbury last year, but went under the radar trying to avoid attention, and has said mysteriously: ‘Have I been before? Maybe…’

Big sister Beatrice, 28, was also desperate to go but displayed an admirable sense of maturity – and no doubt pleased Granny – by staying at the races.

Unusually, the two big events clashed this year after Ascot was moved for the first time in its history in an apparent bid to lure a younger, cooler audience.

The racecourse opened a new enclosure last week with DJs, live music and hipster food vans – but clearly the changes did not loosen Glasto’s grip on Eugenie.

The festival concludes tonight with a performance from the Royal princesses’ friend Ed Sheeran – reportedly once ‘knighted’ by Beatrice as part of a practical joke at a private party. Last month Beatrice explained how she was struggling with the date dilemma, telling me: ‘I’m keen to go to Glastonbury but it’s at the same time as Ascot so we’ll have to see.’

The Royal sisters’ Ascot v Glasto predicament, it seems, was shared across high society. Fashion stylist Violet Naylor-Leyland told me: ‘I spent so long dithering over which event to go to that I lost out on both my ticketing options. My friends all had such a dilemma on what one to go to and what to wear because you can’t put a fascinator in a Glasto wheelbarrow.’

However, allowing the princess to skip Ascot may not go down too well with the Palace authorities who arranged for her and Beatrice to be moved up the carriage list this year to ride with the Prince of Wales.

Eugenie may be hoping to keep a low profile at Glasto again but it’s surely going to be difficult to pull it off for a second year…
