ATHLETICS:

Eilidh Doyle wants to stay in the ranks of World Championship medal contenders in today’s Diamond League meeting in the Moroccan capital Rabat.

The 30-year-old (below) has taken several big 400 metres hurdles scalps with strong recent showings and she believes her best is still ahead.

‘Lausanne for me was a solid race,’ said Doyle. ‘I nailed that one and I feel now how I did last year.

‘Last year, I opened up quick, fell back down and then came back up again. This year’s more about peaking at the right time. London last weekend felt like was one race too many. I started tiring up. But I’m happy to be competitive and keep getting scalps.’

Laura Muir gets her penultimate tune-up for the worlds in Padova, Italy tonight, before joining Doyle in Monaco next Friday.

SAILING:

British pair Hannah Mills and Eilidh McIntyre won silver at the 470 World Championships in Greece.

Mills — who won Olympic gold at Rio 2016 with the now-retired Saskia Clark — and McIntyre went into yesterday’s final 16 points off the lead.

But Poland’s Agnieszka Skrzypulec and Irmina Mrozek Gliszczynska held on for gold as the Britons missed out on becoming world champions.

Another British pair, Amy Seabright and Anna Carpenter, finished eighth.

Cardiff-born Mills only returned to competition in May, having experienced concussion symptoms following a training collision in January, and stomach problems in March.

She partnered Winchester-born McIntyre for the first time in June as they took gold in the World Cup Series final.
