No wonder the French are angry – we’re leaving!

Is anyone really surprised by the French attitude?

As you reported last week, officials there want to wreck the UK economy in revenge for Brexit. Our vote to leave the EU has caused a lot of resentment, so officials won’t make it easy for us, even if threatenin­g to destroy the City is completely over the top.

If the French government are so set on sabotaging the UK economy, we should fight back by refusing to buy French products – anything from their Champagne, beer, wine and cheese to holidays there, not forgetting their Citroens, Renaults and Peugeots. Last week you cited Britain’s victory at Waterloo as a source of resentment for France.

But I think their hard feelings for us stem from the 20th Century. I think they will never forgive us for liberating them in the war. Instead of focusing on what ills might befall the UK, perhaps it is about time we reminded everyone that we are not the only nation that is intent on leaving Brussels.

Millions supported Marine Le Pen, whose intention was to quit the EU, in French elections.

People also need to be reminded of the dire state of the economies of Greece, Italy and Spain.
