Pedro sure Rangers will be ready for kick-off

- By Fraser Mackie

PEDRO CAIXINHA last night promised Rangers will be ready for the Ladbrokes Premiership kick-off in a fortnight — ideally with as many as 11 new signings available for selection. After watching his side draw 1-1 with Marseille, the Ibrox boss revealed that he wants to add two more players to his squad. All nine of his summer recruits featured in the friendly yesterday, including Graham Dorrans and Bruno Alves who arrived after the humiliating Europa League exit to Progres Niederkorn. And there were hints from Caixinha that the players he wants to increase his squad strength are names already in the public domain — Hearts winger Jamie Walker and Aberdeen midfielder Kenny McLean.

A move for Walker, already the subject of a rejected £500,000 offer, is the likelier one to succeed and Caixinha admitted his signing spree may stall at ten.

Speaking for the first time since their Luxembourg loss, the Portuguese (left) said: ‘We have our targets but the transfer window doesn’t close for a few more weeks. The chairman and board have been doing a fantastic job on their side.

‘We’re trying to do our best on our side. We know what we want and together we’re going to get it. We’re fighting for it.

‘I won’t mention names but you identified two players and we need two more players. We’ll try to have them with us. If not the two, then at least one.

‘I’m confident that we’ll be ready for the Motherwell match on August 6.’
