- By Euan McArthur

DUNDEE UNITED manager Ray McKinnon saw his side maintain their 100-per-cent league record — then admitted they won ugly.

McKinnon’s men turned in a below-par display as they left it late to overcome newly-promoted Brechin thanks to Scott McDonald’s 80th-minute winner, which kept them riding high at the top of the table.

McKinnon said: ‘Hopefully, we won’t have to remember that game come the end of the season. We can just remember getting the three points. Most of my team were off the pace. It wasn’t great

TEN-MAN Inverness avoided a third straight defeat but remain bottom of the table. They could have been out of sight after Gary Warren’s opener on 19 minutes but had to settle for a point after Robert Thomson equalised. Collin Seedorf was shown red in the closing stages for Caley Thistle. Home boss John Robertson said: ‘We weren’t clinical enough.’ Morton manager Jim Duffy added: ‘A point is a fair result.’ to watch but there will be games like that throughout this season.’

United were strong favourites to make it three straight league wins but suffered a huge let-off two minutes before half-time.

Jordan Sinclair’s cross was deflected by United defender Mark Durnan on to the post before bouncing back and hitting keeper Harry Lewis, who eventually grabbed the ball.

A HEADED goal from Queen of the South centre-back Callum Fordyce proved to be the difference between the Doonhamers and Dumbarton at Palmerston. Queens manager Gary Naysmith said: ‘We missed a lot of chances to kill the game but never put it to bed. I am relived that we saw things out and got our third win in a row at home.’ Sons boss Stephen Aitken argued: ‘We were better in the second half but nothing fell for us in the box.’
