AUDREY came to London shortly after the war to take up a scholarship with Marie Rambert, founder of Ballet Rambert – and leather ballet pumps became her favourite type of footwear. Son Sean remembers ‘bundles of these shoes arriving, folded fat, fastened by a rubber band’, and believes Audrey bought a job lot from Capezio when the firm discontinued her favourite style. The auction lot is for three pairs.
