Under-fire Houston makes his point

- By Lindsay Herron

FALKIRK took another step towards turning their season around with a thoroughly deserved point against the title favourites.

And manager Peter Houston, under scrutiny from certain sections of the support, believed a concerted run of success is just around the corner, even though their winless run has now stretched to six matches.

He said: ‘If we play like that against other teams in the division, I feel we will start getting a run of victories.

‘We were playing against a team that spent a lot of money in the summer and it was a tough game.

‘There were times when we could have won it and times when they could have won it, but I think a draw was fair.

‘We defended very well and we have to give credit to the back four — but we have to change these draws into wins.

‘I’m encouraged by the performance and I thought the attitude and the application was good.’

The chance of the match fell to Scott McDonald just before half-time, however, the normally deadly Aussie passed it up.

Paul McMullan’s cross seemed perfect but McDonald headed over the bar from close range.

United might have sealed the win in 82 minutes but McMullan’s effort hit the left post.

Manager Ray McKinnon said: ‘If anyone was going to score that goal it’s Scott McDonald but it was maybe an indication of our lack of confidence in front of goal.

‘It’s a really good point because there is no doubt Falkirk are underperforming in terms of their points tally this season.’
