MILLER RETURNS AND FINDS TARGET

- By Fraser Mackie

KENNY MILLER made a scoring return to action for the Rangers first team yesterday in a behind-closed-doors draw with Morton.

Miller, dropped by Pedro Caixinha for the win at Hamilton last weekend and sent to play for the Under-20s at Brentford, appeared as a substitute in a 3-3 bounce match at Auchenhowie.

Rangers got no further than their own training ground during international weekend, following the controversial cancellation of a Canadian training camp and game against Benfica.

Veteran striker Miller was scratched from the squad list for that North America trip before the organisers pulled the plug on the Eusebio Cup contest.

However, he was back in favour for the low-key visit of Jim Duffy’s Ladbrokes Championship side.

Jason Holt and seldom-sighted winger Dalcio also netted for Rangers as a host of young fringe players enjoyed run-outs.

Ricki Lamie, Ross Forbes and Gary Oliver were the visiting scorers.

Rangers and Miller will now set sights on the difficult Friday test against St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park where the 37-year-old rounded off his club Player Of The Year season with a goal in May.

St Johnstone star Stefan Scougall, meanwhile, is relishing a maiden opportunity to play competitively against family favourites Rangers.

The former Livingston midfielder returned to Scotland in the summer from Sheffield United and insists Friday’s game is the one he has been anticipating most since returning north of the border from his three-year stint down south.

‘I’m looking forward to it,’ he said. ‘Growing up, Barry Ferguson was my idol.

‘My dad and my granddad would watch Rangers. I’m from Edinburgh and folk would ask why I support Rangers. It’s a family thing.

‘So now my old man gets the best of both worlds — he’ll be cheering for me to win, though, I am sure.’
