Not to be sniffed at! Socks you can wear for 6 DAYS

- By Jamie Nimmo

IF YOUR feet or those of a loved one are more pungent than a ripe Stilton, help may soon be at hand.

For Chinese designers claim to have found a solution – ‘odourless’ socks that can be worn for up to six days without needing a wash.

The socks are lined with tiny wires made of silver, copper and zinc that can neutralise the headiest whiff. These metals work together to kill bacteria that cause foot odour. The makers, MP Glovax, are now in discussions to stock the socks in British supermarkets next year.

Other companies have tried to design socks that do not smell by using linings of silver. But they stop working after several washes, according to MP Glovax. ‘We think there is no product on the market at the moment that can really solve this problem,’ said MP Glovax’s chief executive, Stephen Zhang.

The firm said it was looking to expand its business here after seeing particularly high demand online from young shoppers in Britain.

This suggests younger Brits are more self-conscious than other nationalities about their smelly feet. Mr Zhang also reported that just as many women have bought the socks as men – though the firm believes many will have bought them as gifts for their partners.

An international poll by of 2,000 people suggests that more men than women suffer from the curse of smelly feet. Nearly 70 per cent of the men questioned in the online survey admitted that their feet were prone to pong, compared with only nine per cent of women.

The socks are currently available only in grey and black, but MP Glovax is planning to launch a more colourful range.

Mr Zhang said he hoped they would be on shelves next year, with a pair expected to sell for about £5.
