BROWN SUGAR

The sweetest moment of my career, says skipper after Celtic set record

- By Fraser Mackie

SCOTT BROWN last night described leading Celtic to a club and British record 63 domestic games unbeaten as the highlight of his career.

A 4-0 thrashing of St Johnstone in Perth saw Brendan Rodgers and his Invincibles smash the club’s own century-old feat set by Willie Maley’s squad between 1915 and 1917.

Brown rated reaching that milestone as the best achievement in his decorated 13-trophy decade of Celtic service.

When asked to rank the accomplishment, the Celtic captain said: ‘It’s the main one, for me, to do 63 unbeaten. To do the Treble, to be the Invincibles, it has been a great 16, 17 months. It’s a great honour to captain this side, to come into training every day, to play in front of our fans from the first game to the 63rd.

‘The lads in the squad have been fantastic. We’ve dug out 63 games. We’ve played some great ones, some not so great. But it’s the ones you don’t play great — like going away to Motherwell 2-0 down at half-time and struggling — that shows our fight and will to win. It is about determination, top-quality management and players willing to learn.’

Brown, 32, vowed that Celtic would not let up in the charge for another Treble and, potentially, a second season without losing.

‘We want to maintain that and the manager won’t let us slip,’ said Brown. ‘He’s definitely made me better, made me understand the game. He’s a great manager to learn under.’
