Facebook bans Xmas cards... as too sexual!
AN artist was astonished when Facebook censored her hand-painted Christmas cards.
For the cards Jackie Charley tried to upload to the social media site to sell in the run-up to Christmas featured innocent images of a squirrel, a stag and a robin.
So she was dismayed when a bright red warning notice appeared on the screen, stating that her artwork had been ‘rejected’.
Ironically, Facebook has been condemned by politicians over recent months for allowing pornography and other vile videos to remain online.
Yet the company took only seconds to ban the artist’s robin redbreast design from its site.
The accompanying notice read: ‘Rejected: There are issues with your product. It looks like we didn’t approve your item because we don’t allow the sale of adult items or services (e.g. sexual enhancement items or adult videos).’
The mother-of-two, from the village of Denholm, Roxburghshire, was appalled.
Last night, she said: ‘I am lost for words. How they could be considered inappropriate or sexual is beyond me.
‘I have now been unable to sell my Christmas cards for a fortnight on the site – and I am the sole earner in my family, so this extra income is very important.’
She added: ‘I was sure it had been a mistake, but it wasn’t. Facebook is the best place to advertise as it reaches so many people, but they have just put this big obstacle in the way. I really hope they let me sell my cards before Christmas.’
Mrs Charley, 52, moved to Scotland from Yorkshire with her two sons and husband Graham, who has a serious medical condition. She works from home to care for him and relies on Facebook to sell her cards. She said: ‘I thought it would be a lovely idea, but it’s become one big mess.’
Last night, Facebook said it was investigating the ban.
