Our hotel treat was a disaster

I was interested to read your article on the appalling Britannia hotel group and its soaring profits. We had our honeymoon in 1964 at the Metropole in Blackpool, now owned by Britannia, and I took my wife back on our Golden Wedding. What a disaster! I was told on arrival the ‘executive restaurant’ was closed. The only alternative was more like a works canteen. The whole place was not so much tired as virtually comatose, with a general air of neglect.
