Perry goes large as Australia cruise
ELLYSE PERRY became only the seventh woman to hit a double hundred as Australia batted England out of the only Ashes Test in Sydney. The all-rounder (left) scored an unbeaten 213 on day three of the four-day match as Australia declared on 448 for nine, a firstinnings lead of 168.
England, who had been desperate to win the day-night Test to stay alive in the multiformat series, have been left battling for a draw and then hoping they can pull off a 3-0 whitewash in the one-day internationals to win the Ashes.
Perry, whose previous best Test score was 71, clouted 27 boundaries and a six in a 374-ball innings. England’s openers, Lauren Winfield and Tammy Beaumont, survived to reach 40 without loss at the close.
‘That was fun,’ said Perry, after hitting the third highest score in women’s Test cricket.
