Snowbound Britain is colder than Antarctica – and doesn’t Honey the cockapoo know it!

- By Paul Drury

WEATHER experts have issued a chilling forecast for those who don’t like the current cold snap – it’s colder than Antarctica.

A yellow Met Office ‘be aware’ warning is in place for ice across Scotland until 10am today, resulting in slippery conditions underfoot.

Despite a brief thaw this afternoon, the mercury will begin its downward spiral again tomorrow.

By Wednesday morning, temperatures of around -3C to -4C can be expected widely – much the same as the -3C recorded by US research base Palmer Station in Antarctica.

Ian Robinson of the Met Office in Aberdeen said that the UK is becoming trapped between two weather systems, drawing bone-chilling polar air across the country.

He added: ‘There is an area of low pressure over Scandinavia and an area of high pressure out in the Atlantic. This has the result of dragging air from the north, which will make things feel really cold for most of the week.

‘By the end of the week, there is a chance that high pressure will move in, dropping the winds and seeing the showers die off.’

Before then, Scotland faces a bleak mixture of snow and rain showers, gales and frost in the mornings.

Bookies say they have taken a flurry of bets on this November being the coldest on record.

Ironically, December looks to be starting on a warmer note from Friday.
