Court outburst of man accused of mowing down young brothers

- By Hannah McFadyen

A SUSPECTED hit-and-run driver accused of killing two young brothers had to be restrained in court yesterday.

Rob Brown, 53, is accused of causing death by dangerous driving after two-year-old Casper Platt-May and brother Corey, six, were knocked down and killed in Coventry on Thursday during a half-term trip to the park.

During the seven-minute appearance, Brown yelled that the hearing was a ‘kangaroo court’.

Brown, from Coventry, was also accused of driving while disqualified, with no insurance and not in accordance with a licence. His fiancee, Gwendoline Louise Harrison, 41, was charged with assaulting a member of the public following the collision.

The pair were remanded in custody until March 22.

Meanwhile, flowers were yesterday still being laid at the scene of the tragedy, near the Platt-May family home.

In a statement, the boys’ mother Louise, 28, said: ‘Corey was an amazing boy. He never kept still, always had to be doing something.

‘He loved school more than any kid I know. His favourite subject was maths. But his main passion in life was his football. He will be deeply missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him.

‘Casper was a cheeky little boy, always getting into trouble. But he was so loving and caring.

‘He loved splashing in puddles. His smile could light up any room and he will be so, so missed by all who knew him.’

Corey’s football team Coventry Copsewood yesterday cancelled all their matches as a mark of respect.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, of West Midlands Police, said: ‘We continue to ask anyone with information who has not already spoken to us to get in touch.’
