PARKHEAD BOSS HAS ARRANGED SCOTS SUMMIT

- By Graeme Croser

CELTIC manager Brendan Rodgers is to hold a summit with Scotland boss Alex McLeish within a fortnight, at which the pair will discuss the future of Scott Brown and the Parkhead club’s stance on the national team’s end-ofseason trip to Latin America.

Appointed Scotland coach for the second time earlier this month, McLeish was at pains to leave the door open for Brown, to whom he handed a competitive Scotland debut against Georgia in 2007.

Brown came out of retirement to aid Gordon Strachan’s efforts to get Scotland to the 2018 World Cup but has been non-committal over whether he will add to his 55 caps going into the Euro 2020 preliminaries.

Regardless of his decision, it seems unlikely that the Celtic captain will be on the plane to South America in June and, with four rounds of qualifiers standing between Celtic and a place in the Champions League, Rodgers is unlikely to want many — if any — of his players making the journey.

Brown heads a list of up to nine potential Celts for the games against Peru and Mexico but Rodgers will seek an accommodation when he sits down with McLeish.

‘Myself and Alex had a good chat after his appointment,’ said Rodgers. ‘I’ll look to meet him in the next couple of weeks.

‘I’ve not really got a view on Scott’s situation at the moment but Alex will speak to him on it and we will go from there.

‘Regarding the games, I will speak to him on that.’
