From Clacton Beach to a Casino Royale wedding

-

First holiday: Going to Clacton-on-Sea in Essex when I was six. I lived in Hackney, East London, and I had never been out of the city before. I went with my mum and her best friend Pam and her three boys. I remember being so excited at seeing a beach for the first time, and running down the pier wearing a Kiss Me Quick hat and eating candyfloss.

First time abroad:

When I was eight we went to Lloret de Mar in Spain. We went by coach because my mum couldn’t afford the flights. I moaned about the journey but it was worth it. During our stay, we went on a day trip to Barcelona and my mum bought me a flamenco dress, which I treasured for years.

First school trip:

To a farm in Essex in my first year at primary school. I didn’t really enjoy it. I was wearing a lovely red coat and it got spattered in mud. I couldn’t wait to go home.

My honeymoon:

I married Jack at Lake Como’s Villa del Balbianello in 2012. It’s where some of the scenes for Casino Royale were filmed. It was the most lovely setting, with stunning views of the lake and mountains. Afterwards we crossed the lake and stayed at the CastaDiva Resort for our honeymoon.

Best holiday:

Last year we went with our three-year-old son Rafferty to the Pine Cliffs hotel in Portugal. It had a great spa.

Worst holiday:

I went to Hawaii with a friend and she met a guy on the second day, so I was on my own for ten days – just call me Martine No Mates!

Essential item:

My credit card. I often have to pay extra for my luggage because I go over the weight allowance.

Dream destinations:

I would love to tour the US, especially New England and the Deep South. I lived in LA when I had a TV show but I was so homesick, I came home after eight months – I missed our sense of humour.

Martine’s album Lost And Found is out now and she is on tour in April. iammartine.com
