No probe into death of island minister
THERE will be no public probe into a scandal-hit church minister who was found dead in a hospital toilet.
The suicide of the Rev Iain D Campbell rocked the religious community of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.
The Free Church of Scotland launched its own investigation after it emerged that its former moderator had alleged affairs involving seven women.
Mr Campbell, 53, was found in a toilet at the Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway, before being airlifted to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he died in the early hours of January 28 last year.
Following an investigation the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service has confirmed there will be no Fatal Accident Inquiry.
A spokesman said: ‘After careful consideration of the facts, including a critical incident review from NHS Western Isles, the procurator fiscal concluded no further investigation is required. The family have been informed.’
