Kelsey concerned at drought on tour
KELSEY MacDONALD, the former Scottish Women’s champion, has expressed concern that a lack of tournaments on the Ladies European Tour will impact on her short-term ambitions.
The 27-year-old Inverness-born golfer is targeting the European Team Championships at Gleneagles in August.
But with qualification based on world ranking, MacDonald fears that she could miss out.
She said: ‘Between Morocco in the middle of April and the Scottish Open at the end of July, it doesn’t look like we’ll have any events.
‘That’s a huge gap and I’m just hoping the end of the season will be jam-packed like last year.
‘It’s the same for everyone and you just have to stay positive and try to be competitive when you can.
‘I’ll have to try to get some points and at least give myself a chance of making it, but it’s hard when you don’t have enough events to play in to show that you are good enough to be in the team.
‘But the Gleneagles event remains a big goal, and then there’s the Solheim Cup next year, so I might try some Access Series events or mini-tour events to get sharp and be competitive.’
