A campaign of highs and lows
WALES 34 SCOTLAND 7
Scotland squandered an early break and Wales seized their chances thereafter, Gareth Davies, Leigh Halfpenny (2) and Steff Evans scoring tries before a late consolation from Peter Horne.
SCOTLAND 32 FRANCE 26
A see-saw game saw Teddy Thomas score two tries for the visitors but Scotland managed to keep in touch with two tries of their own and Greig Laidlaw clinically punished French indiscipline with six second-half penalties to seal victory.
SCOTLAND 25 ENGLAND 13
Finn Russell shrugged off belowpar displays to conduct the orchestra with world-class aplomb as a fine team performance led to three first-half tries and a first Calcutta Cup win in a decade.
IRELAND 28 SCOTLAND 8
The ‘away day blues’ struck again as a promising start was undone by more costly early errors. Scotland actually played well and created enough to win, despite a misfiring lineout, but clinical Ireland duly wrapped up the title.
ITALY 27 SCOTLAND 29
Scotland’s inability to perform at their best on the road continued as they struggled to overcome a skilful and physical Italian team. Ironically, it was Scotland’s first four-try haul, and bonus point, in the championship.
