Faux Style

- By ABIGAIL AHERN

Faux style is a gamechanger, offering a chic look, often at a fraction of the cost of the real thing. From trompe-l’oeil wallpaper to faux animal hides to remarkably realistic flowers and plants, I must confess I am obsessed.

‘Fake’ used to be synonymous with cheap and nasty. But that’s no longer the case thanks to new technology and quality materials.

Fancy an exposed brickwork wall without any of the mess and upheaval? There’s a brickwork wallpaper for that.

I’ve got weathered floorboards that look like really old oak, but they’re actually hand-moulded in durable polyurethane.

There are also some great stone, slate and concrete-effect vinyl floor tiles that look fantastic but cost less and are easier to maintain.

So get aboard the faux train.
