...but fans are happy as new novel looms

- By Mike Merritt

THEY are more used to waiting for what a boy wizard will do next, not a dishevelled private detective with a prosthetic leg. But fans of JK Rowling’s writing need wait no longer – the best-selling author has finished her latest book and announced the news on the internet.

Earlier this week, the writer revealed that she was ‘very close’ to finishing Lethal White – the fourth novel in her Cormoran Strike series – and that it will be adapted for screen. The book follows the adventures of private investigator Cormoran Strike and is written by Miss Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.

‘Finished,’ the Edinburgh-based author wrote on Twitter next to ‘#LethalWhite’. Her legions of followers quickly weighed in with their ‘likes’.

Lethal White follows the previous Strike books The Cuckoo’s Calling, Silkworm and Career of Evil. All three have been adapted into a BBC series, starring Tom Burke as Strike, but the ending of the third mystery this month left fans wanting more.

Some doubted whether Lethal White would ever be ready, after Miss Rowling said ideas about the Harry Potter spin-off film series Fantastic Beasts were distracting her. But with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and now Lethal White on the horizon, there will be plenty of magic to come this year and next from Miss Rowling, the once-struggling single mother and now richest author in the world.

The Harry Potter franchise stretches way past just books and is estimated to be worth almost £11 billion. The books were turned into blockbuster movies and there are now two theme parks dedicated to Harry Potter, as well as countless items of licensed memorabilia and merchandise.
