Visit Sandringham in a style fit for a king

Join MoS Editor and Royal author Geordie Greig on the ultimate British train journey and be enthralled by his unique insight into George VI’s life

-

HERE is your chance to enjoy a very special visit to Sandringham, the Norfolk retreat adored by generations of Royals. George VI once wrote that ‘I have always been so happy here and I love the place’ – and we will take you there by Belmond British Pullman train to help you discover why it is so popular.

You will be joined on board by the Editor of The Mail on Sunday, Geordie Greig – his grandfather Louis was a friend, mentor and physician to the young Prince Albert, who went on to become George VI.

Geordie wrote the acclaimed book The King Maker: The Man Who Saved George VI, and will talk about his grandfather’s influence on the painfully shy Prince and how their friendship helped shape the future King.

Louis Greig was a naval surgeon from Glasgow who operated on the kitchen table of Buckingham Palace to remove Prince Albert’s ulcer. It was a key moment which made George V ask Greig to keep a permanent eye on his vulnerable younger son.

Albert was seemingly not destined to become King, but following the abdication of his elder brother, he succeeded to the throne in 1937.

George V saw Greig as crucial to the development of his son. Geordie’s book uses unique personal papers allowed by kind permission of the Queen from the Royal Archives to document the relationship.

After your elegant train rolls into Watlington station, you will make the fascinating trip to the Sandringham estate, then return to London in the same style, enjoying a champagne reception and sumptuous fourcourse dinner on board your train. Quite simply, this will be a journey fit for a king.
