SCOTTISH LABOUR IS URGED TO PROBE THE PROTESTERS
SCOTTiSH Labour is facing demands for an investigation into anti-Semitism protesters who ‘undermine the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn’.
a motion passed by an Edinburgh branch of the party claims there is ‘a systematic and organised campaign designed to destabilise the party’.
One angry Scottish Labour source said it was a ‘witch hunt’ against those who condemned anti-Semitism and the leader’s failure to take action against it.
Jewish rights campaigners said the motion was ‘beyond contempt’ and was alienating Jews from the party.
The motion narrowly passed at Edinburgh Eastern Constituency Labour Party was put forward by daniel Moran, who works for former Scottish Labour deputy leader alex rowley.
Mr rowley, who stood down as deputy leader after allegations of sexual harassment, said he agreed with the motion.
‘i think he is calling for unity within the party,’ the Mid Scotland and Fife MSP said. He added that Labour Party members had been ‘dismayed by the level of discussion and attacks on the leadership’.
a Scottish Labour spokesman said: ‘Labour has a zero-tolerance approach to racism. We want to tackle all forms of discrimination. No one should be criticised for speaking out against intolerance.’
The Edinburgh motion will now go before Labour’s National Executive Committee and the Scottish Executive Committee.
