-

with partner Michelle and daughter Saoirse.

The 56-year-old learned of the good news of his remission in an email bulletin a few days ago.

The positive update will be greeted with relief and delight in Scottish football.

Williamson’s former clubs Rangers, Kilmarnock and Hibs led an outpouring of well-wishing during his battle with the disease.

Among the messages of support at the turn of the year, Premiership top scorer Kris Boyd said he was inspired to score a double at Rugby Park after a morning text exchange with his former boss.

‘The cancer is gone, which is great,’ said Williamson. ‘I will always go back every three months to make sure they keep on top of things. Or if anything does show up, they can catch it early enough to be able to deal with it.

‘I hope not to go through it all again.

‘That was hard work, to say the least, not only for me but for the people round about me. I wasn’t very patient as a patient. I hope that’s all behind me now.

‘I can breathe through my nose now and I’m putting weight back on. I feel a lot better that my weight is climbing up again.

‘I’m still having trouble with hearing out of my left side but the right side is a bit better. There’s certainly a lot of improvement there.’

Williamson still has a case pending against the Football Kenya Federation over unpaid wages before his sacking in February 2016. The former Uganda national manager and Kenyan champions Gor Mahia coach is hoping to return to work once that is resolved.
