Does Thomson want to be a one-term MP?

-

SCOTS Tory MPs are becoming increasingly worried about the behaviour of their colleague Ross Thomson.

They are coming to the conclusion that the Honourable Member for Aberdeen South doesn’t like Westminster that much as he seems to be doing all he can to ensure he is a one-term MP.

It was something of a surprise when Mr Thomson, pictured, won the constituency last year. He was a spokesman for the Leave campaign and his voters had overwhelmingly supported Remain. It is a liberal kind of place that had Labour’s Anne Begg as its MP for nearly 20 years. Posing by Saddam Hussein’s military parade ground for the kind of ‘jolly holiday snap’ you used to get on Blackpool Pier in the 1950s is unlikely to endear him to his constituents. Nor is taking a prime position as a nodding dog during Boris Johnson’s resignation speech. Last week’s gambit was to state that one of the benefits of Brexit is that, freed from EU regulations, the UK will enjoy more powerful vacuum cleaners, although clearly not ones we could export to the European Union.

Colleagues fear his head may have been turned and that he might have forgotten he won his election surfing the tide of Ruth Davidson’s popularity and the campaign against Indyref 2.

‘It is a real pity,’ said one colleague. ‘While most MPs scour their constituencies for campaign ideas, Ross seems to get his off the Shopping Channel.’
