Robertson draws his breath after thriller

- By Alasdair Fraser

IN ALMOST 40 years in senior football, John Robertson has never seen anything like it — seven successive draws for his team.

The sequence could have been broken as Inverness boss Robertson was convinced County’s Billy Mckay was in an offside position before his cross was turned into his own net by Brad McKay to make it 2-2 just before half-time.

Robertson said: ‘It was a brilliant game. Their first goal (from Jamie Lindsay) was a great strike, but we came back well and deserved to be ahead at 2-1.

‘With their equaliser, you can clearly see Billy Mckay is offside and we felt a bit aggrieved at half-time.’

County led after 17 minutes. Iain Vigurs kept on his feet to slip as pass inside to Don Cowie, who threaded the ball into Lindsay’s path.

From 22 yards, the County midfielder steered a low shot into the net.

Two minutes later, Inverness were level. Tom Walsh powered in a header and, six yards out, George Oakley’s outstretched leg deftly did the rest.

The hosts then grabbed the lead in the 30th minute. Liam Polworth set up Shaun Rooney and the full-back whipped a low shot into the net.

Then, in 43 minutes, came the Mckay controversy. Inverness appealed for offside, but the flag stayed down as the ex-Caley Thistle striker’s cross was turned into the his own net by the McKay’s flailing leg.
