Mrs Hinch’s guide to Spring cleaning your HOME

-

SHE’S the internet sensation whose brilliant cleaning tips have more than two million followers hooked.

Twenty-nine-year-old Sophie Hinchliffe, who is better known as Mrs Hinch, has a quirky and fun approach to the jobs most of us dread and has inspired a new generation to mop, dust and polish like never before.

What’s more, her first book has been at the top of the Amazon chart for weeks – even though it hasn’t yet been released.

But here, in an exclusive extract for The Mail on Sunday, Sophie – who lives in Maldon, Essex, with husband Jamie and dog Henry – reveals that you, too, can quickly and easily transform your home from mucky to marvellous.

Here’s how to Hinch Yourself Happy…

IF I’M honest, I can’t get my head around the success of Mrs Hinch – I don’t know how it happened but it’s been amazing. It started when Jamie and I bought our first house two years ago. For me, home is so important and I wanted to look after it and tell everyone about it, but I didn’t want to bore my friends. So, for a bit of fun, I set up an Instagram page about what I was doing and it grew from there.

Since then I’ve had milestones I can’t believe – my first million followers, then hitting two million last month. A bestselling book. Messages from people saying I’ve changed their lives.

But what they probably don’t know is that they’ve also helped me. Ever since I was a child, I’ve been a little worrier – at school I’d fret about getting to lessons on time or having my PE kit on the right day.

But by the time I got into my early 20s, I’d started to suffer from anxiety.

It’s a difficult age when everyone’s at a different stage in their life and I found it hard – I’d often feel quite panicky, vulnerable and alone. I began to notice it helped if I kept busy. If I was mopping or vacuuming, then it kept my mind occupied and I wasn’t sitting there thinking too deeply.

It was then I realised I absolutely loved cleaning. Now I want everyone to enjoy it just as much as I do.

It’s something we all have to do whether we want to or not, so why not make it fun?

I think too many people think ‘Oh no, I’ve got to spend the entire weekend cleaning’, but while, personally, I’d love that, the trick is to keep on top of it.

Do a little often then you’re not always having to do these ridiculously deep cleans that take hours. So, where do you begin? For me, it starts with making your house smell amazing.

Plug in your favourite air freshener or spray around a lovely carpet freshener so the aroma hits you every time you walk through the door. It’ll make you want to keep it that way.

Next, go through your cleaning cupboard and work out what you need – there’s a guide to help you overleaf. And don’t worry, you don’t need to spend a fortune – most of what I use is from pound shops.

Now it’s time to clean – or Hinch, as I call it.

Go around your house with a pad and jot down a few things you’d like to get done. Not too many – little and often, remember.

Then pop everything you need into a little basket so you can take it from room to room, and don’t have to keep running back to the cleaning cupboard – there’s nothing worse!

Put on your favourite music and you’re ready to start. It’s as simple as that. And once you’re finished, remember to look at everything gleaming and sparkling and notice how good you feel. You’ll soon come to love it.

So come on everyone – grab everything you need, and let’s get Hinching!
