SNP’s shameful tax on hard-working Scots

-

Nicola Sturgeon is making her mark in history – and for all the wrong reasons.

To impose on hard-working people yet more tax, this time in the form of a levy on parking at our workplaces, is ludicrous.

Bus and train fares are ridiculously high. Now drivers face this extra charge.

The SNP and Greens are happy to tax motorists while using our money to transport themselves around in government cars.

This SNP-led Government is the worst in its short history. I was an SNP voter but I will vote for the Brexit Party next time – and I believe a lot of people will do the same. Ms Sturgeon should get on with trying to run this country and put all of her efforts into doing what is right for the people of Scotland instead of obsessing over independence. It is not wanted and that will be proved when the next election takes place. Bring it on. Graham Wilson, Methil, Fife

The SNP and Greens claim the workplace parking tax will help to reduce air pollution.

But if employers don’t pass the charge on to employees, then workers will continue to drive to work. If local authorities do not pass on the charge to their own staff, it will have to come from council budgets, reducing the money available for public services – or likely resulting in an increase in council tax.

Outside cities, not everyone has access to frequent and reliable public transport – and where this does exist, it can take a long time to complete a journey if you have to catch more than one bus or train. Some people have no choice but to drive.

This new tax will hit hardest those workers on low and middle incomes, who will have to pay out an estimated £415 – rising to nearly £500 once VAT is added. Donald Lewis, Gifford, East Lothian
