...as Rafa Nadal marries childhood sweetheart at Night Manager’s fortress
THEY only began dating last year. But after a whirlwind romance, Jennifer Lawrence and art dealer Cooke Maroney married yesterday in what has been dubbed the Hollywood wedding of the year.
The £1 million ceremony, which was held at Belcourt Castle on Rhode Island, a Louis XIII-style mansion once rumoured to be haunted, was attended by A-list guests including Lawrence’s best friend Adele, Bradley Cooper, Sienna Miller and the Kardashians’ Kris Jenner.
The Oscar-winning actress, an outspoken environmentalist, arrived from New York with her 34-year-old fiancé on Friday night – and was IT is the opulent fortress best known for playing a starring role in the hit BBC spy drama The Night Manager. And yesterday La Fortaleza was the backdrop to another high-profile event – as the glamorous setting for the wedding of Rafa Nadal and his childhood sweetheart. The 33-year-old sporting superstar married Mery Perello, 31, at the 17th Century venue in Majorca, in front of 350 guests including Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia, tennis players Juan Monaco and Feliciano Lopez, Spanish actress Carolina Cerezuela, and Swiss luxury watchmaker Richard Mille.
Nadal proposed during a trip to Rome in May last year following a 14-year courtship. immediately criticised for using a private jet to make the short trip.
One critic wrote: ‘More ecowarriors flaunting their immense privilege with their private jet.’
Ms Lawrence, 29, met Maroney through a mutual friend, and has described him as ‘the best person I’ve ever met in my whole life’. She said accepting his proposal was ‘a very, very easy decision’.
‘He’s my best friend so I wanted to legally bind myself to him forever,’ she added.
