POWDERPUFF WARRIORS ARE BLOWN AWAY

- By Steffan Thomas

GLASGOW’S poor start to the season continued as they were dismissed by Dragons in a lowquality affair at Rodney Parade.

Tries from Taine Basham and Ashton Hewitt plus eight points from the boot of Sam Davies were enough to secure the Welsh region their first competitive home victory of the Dean Ryan era.

All Dave Rennie’s side could muster was a last-gasp consolation try from discarded Scotland centre Huw Jones.

If Rennie’s move to Australia isn’t yet a done deal, he wouldn’t want his potential future employers to have tuned in to what was a poor display in east Wales. Glasgow were outmuscled by a hungrier Dragons side and looked rudderless throughout.

‘I thought we kicked poorly and didn’t look after the ball well enough,’ said Rennie.

‘We couldn’t build any pressure and we lost a lot of the key battles. I wasn’t happy at half-time mainly because we kicked aimlessly and handed a lot of ball back to them.’

The Dragons led 6-0 at the break thanks to two Davies penalties.

And they came out firing in the second half as Wales Under-20s star Basham powered his way over. Davies converted.

It got worse for the visitors when Ashton Hewitt touched down.

Glasgow lock Kiran McDonald thought he had grabbed a late consolation try when he touched down from short range but upon referral to the TMO the try was disallowed.

But the visitors did manage a try late on when Jones scored in the corner. The conversion was missed.
