Dens fans right to be furious, says McPake

- By Euan McArthur

DESPAIRING Dundee boss James McPake insisted his club’s outraged fans were justified in venting their anger after this loss — and admitted he would have done likewise had he been watching from the stand.

McPake’s team endured a third straight defeat, which brought a chorus of boos from the home support after two-goal hero Stephen Dobbie snatched victory for Queens in stoppage-time.

Dundee substitute Danny Johnson looked to have given the hosts a share of the points with his 93rd-minute equaliser.

The prolific Dobbie’s sublime first-half strike had put Allan Johnston’s side in the driving seat, before Johnson equalised.

A draw looked on the cards before Dobbie struck again just 11 seconds later.

‘I completely understand where the fans are coming from,’ said McPake. ‘This performance definitely won’t get them on our side.

‘I get why they were booing at the end. If I were one, I’d be doing the exact same thing.

‘Just 11 seconds after levelling, it’s a sucker punch at the other end and a moment of madness. Jordon Forster knows he made a mistake and has put his hands up.

‘It’s a costly one but, to be honest, there were lots of errors out there. The performance was an error.’

Queens took the lead in 29 minutes. Darren Brownlie began the move by feeding Dobbie.

The 36-year-old striker ghosted past two defenders before hitting an unstoppable 20-yard left-foot effort past Dundee keeper Jack Hamilton.

Johnson thought he’d snatched a point for the hosts with an excellent 20-yard strike.

But Dobbie had the last laugh when Forster got caught on the ball, allowing the Queens captain to apply the finishing touch with a chip over Hamilton.

‘I thought our performance was outstanding,’ said Queens boss Johnston.

‘If we had dropped points, it would have been a travesty.’
