Date an actor? Never, says screen star Karen
SCOTS star Karen Gillan has revealed she will never date a fellow actor.
The 32-year-old, who shot to fame in Doctor Who, has admitted she is ‘in a relationship’ but has not yet married.
The actress, who is extremely discreet about her private life, has not publicly dated since breaking up with photographer Patrick Green almost eight years ago, after a six-year romance.
She had been linked to fellow actors Andrew Brooke and Matt Smith, her Doctor Who co-star.
The Inverness-born star, who has now moved to Los Angeles from New York, said her life is ‘insanely busy’.
She is now third in the Highest Grossing Stars of 2019 list – the first British actress to rise so high – after roles in Jumanji and Marvel blockbusters Guardians Of The Galaxy and Avengers.
She said in a US interview last week: ‘I am not married. I’m in a relationship but not married, and it’s good. He’s not an actor... I stay clear of the actors.’
Gillan, whose directorial debut The Party’s Just Beginning was released to critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, is due to start filming the third Guardians Of The Galaxy film soon.
She said: ‘I love working so much – that’s my passion and my hobby. This is what I would spend my free time doing if I wasn’t doing this professionally.’ She added: ‘Moving to America was the biggest risk I ever took after becoming an actress. The move to Los Angeles was a bit of a culture shock for sure. It was like starting from scratch, like being a child. But there are a lot of opportunities.’
The Scot also revealed she always goes home to the Highlands for the festive season, saying: ‘I go back about twice a year, especially for Christmas, so I get to see the local pantomime.
‘It’s Beauty And The Beast this year. I am obsessed with them.’
Gillan’s ranking as the third highest grossing star is based on credits in six films which took more than £5 billion worldwide.
