Robertson quick to silence the critics

-

WERE it not for what John Robertson described as ‘astonishing’ Dundee United form, Inverness Caley Thistle’s first half of the season might be viewed in glowing terms.

Instead, it seems, there is no pleasing a minority of home supporters, including those who gave the Caley Jags boss some grief despite winning against Dunfermline.

Goals from Shaun Rooney and Jamie McCart, both defenders, sealed an important win and kept them 13 points behind United and four above third-placed Ayr United.

Robertson said: ‘I know the crowd get frustrated, but Dunfermline are a good side and move the ball about very well, with clever players.

‘We’re not going to boss the whole game and it is frustrating that the fans, instead of rallying behind us, start to moan a wee bit. In the end, I’m really pleased with the result, the performance and the application of the players.

Inverness made the breakthrough after 34 minutes.

A corner on the right was played back to James Keatings, who curled in a fine cross and Rooney, showing the deft touch of a striker, lifted his right foot high to guide an angled volley into the corner of the net from 10 yards.

Inverness keeper Mark Ridgers made two terrific saves to deny Kevin Nisbet but the hosts killed the game on 80 minutes.

Aaron Doran’s corner was fired high to the back of the penalty box where McCart headed home.

Pars boss Stevie Crawford said: ‘We sat too deep and Inverness punished us.’
