BOSS COVETS SEASONED CAMPAIGNERS

- By Graeme Croser

After last night’s Scottish Cup win at Partick Thistle, the defence of the club’s Premiership title resumes at Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

He continued: ‘I think we’re in a good place overall. If you look at the first half of the season, we’re a lot better off than we were this time last year.

‘Everyone is dictating on the one result, which is fine — we have to look forward to the challenges that lie ahead. Every game is winnable, every game may be a must-win game, and that’s the challenge.

‘You can’t look too far ahead. You haven’t got a crystal ball to know how things are going to go.

‘You need to know who’s fit, who’s available, get your best players on the pitch, analyse the opposition, find their strengths and weaknesses, do that for one game — and then move on to the next as best you can.’ appearance under the club’s new manager Jose Mourinho.

He would fit Lennon’s profile but, although the Northern Irishman remains a huge fan of the Kenyan, he concedes finance will likely rule out any move.

And with the deal for Soro’s £2m transfer from Israeli club Bnei Yehuda set to be finalised over the coming days, he admits he is well stocked for midfield options.

‘Victor’s in my thoughts but could we afford him?’ mused Lennon. ‘I doubt it very much. The problem with Victor is, where do you fit him in with bringing Soro in, if we have (Scott) Brown, (Nir) Bitton, (Callum) McGregor, (Olivier) Ntcham? I don’t think that’s going to be an option.’

Refreshed after taking his players to Dubai for a training camp, Lennon refused to be consumed by the fallout that followed the Rangers result. CELTIC manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that he wants to add another two experienced heads this month — but has reluctantly conceded that former Parkhead favourite Victor Wanyama is unlikely to return in the current transfer window.

After agreeing the transfers of striker Patryk Klimala and midfielder Ismaila Soro, both 21 and earmarked for the future, Lennon admits he needs some extra nous and strength for the title run-in.

Admitting that defeat to Rangers in the final fixture before the winter break had exposed a weakness in his squad, Lennon is now investigating time-served options.

Back in August, he added the Southampton pair of Fraser Forster and Mohamed Elyounoussi on season-long loans and he could return to the English market before deadline day to secure at least one player in a similar mould.

‘Having an older head or two could help,’ said Lennon. ‘In the last game, we looked like we lacked a little bit of nous and experience, a little bit of physicality, so those are areas we’re looking to address.

‘What we are looking for is to add one or two Elyounoussi types who are ready to come in and play straight away with a bit more experience and more physicality.’

Wanyama, now 28, spent two successful years at Celtic under Lennon before transferring to Southampton in a £12million deal in 2013.

He moved to Tottenham three years later but gradually fell out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino and has only made one substitute
