The star cast of David Copperfield

-

Dev Patel The 29-year-old shot to fame in the Oscar-winning 2008 Slumdog Millionaire and was nominated for another Academy Award for Lion. Now he's got a chance again with this huge role, one that has already won him plaudits from critics and audiences alike. Hugh Laurie Most famed for his starring role as the titular character in medical drama House, Laurie appears as Mr Dick in this adaptation and brings a lot of dark humour to the film. He's worked with director Iannucci before on Veep, and jumped at the chance to do it again. Peter Capaldi After playing The Doctor in Doctor Who for four years (from 2013 to 2017) and working with Iannucci on The Thick Of It, Golden Globe winner Capaldi teams up with him once more to play the eternal optimist, Mr Micawber, in David Copperfield and brings his own unique style to the role.

Tilda Swinton

The Oscar-winning actress takes on the part of Betsey Trotwood, David's great-aunt, who has an unfavourable view of men and boys. She is regarded as one of the world's most accomplished actresses, and there's already talk of this role earning Swinton earning Swinton further acclaim. Ben Whishaw One of the brightest stars of British acting, Ben Whishaw plays Uriah Heep, one of the main antagonists. Whishaw won a Golden Globe for A Very English Scandal, was the voice of Paddington, and starred in the latest James Bond films and Mary Poppins Returns. Also starring… And if that cast wasn't enough, the supporting stars are just as distinguished. With comedy and humour playing such a part throughout the film, it's only right that some of the UK's funniest actors appear in it. Not only does Paul Whitehouse play Mr Peggotty, he is joined by This Country star Daisy May Cooper. Aneurin Barnard, stage and screen actress Morfydd Clark, Avengers star Benedict Wong and Gwendoline Christie round off what has to be one of the best British casts in recent years.
