Splash out on style

With a pool, golden tub and Jacuzzi, you’ll be in the lap of luxury

- By Paul Drury

WITH a swimming pool that looks straight out of a brochure for a five-star hotel, this stunning detached villa is the perfect place for making a splash in the property market.

But you probably need to be a millionaire before you can get your Speedos wet in Treetops, in Troon, Ayrshire.

We featured this property four years ago when it was last on the market, with the then-owners seeking a little less than seven figures.

We really liked it then, but its new owners then embarked on a renovation programme so comprehensive that it could not have left much change out of £1 million.

Peter Walker, of estate agent Savills, said: ‘It is almost like a completely new house.

‘The new owners added a leisure wing – complete with heated swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, gym and shower room.

‘They reroofed the building, added new rendering, installed new boilers and re-plumbed the entire house.’

Anyone trying to find evidence of corners being cut faces an arduous task. The kitchen is by bespoke maker Callerton and the wall coverings are by Tektura, a highend design house in Glasgow. There’s even a golden bath.

Treetops has always been associated with wealth, ever since it was built in the early 20th Century for Jack Hart, a member of a prosperous local family.

They lived nearby at Frognal House on the Frognal Estate, which a century later became the home of £161 million EuroMillions winners Chris and Colin Weir. A touching link to Frognal House survived the massive renovation scheme – a replica of a carved stone Frognal fireplace remains in the hallway at Treetops.

The luxury mini-mansion offers accommodation over three floors, including an attic.

The imposing entrance hallway leads to the public apartments, dominated by the elegant drawing room with another feature fireplace and a large bay window overlooking the gardens. The library enjoys dual aspects to the grounds, which extend to four acres of manicured lawns, a patio area and also woodlands.

The kitchen comes with highquality appliances, including ice maker and large American-style fridge. The size of this room allows for a dining table and chairs and separate family sitting area.

Twin patio doors open to the external terrace, which has won a number of national awards for its design and execution. The first floor, accessed via a dramatic oak and glass staircase, has four bedroom suites, each with their own en suite bathroom or shower room.

The master suite boasts a magnificent free-standing golden bath, twin wash basins and its own dressing room.

The accommodation is completed by the two bedrooms on the attic floor, each with their own en suite shower room. In case you are still counting, Treetops has no fewer than seven bathrooms.

As the villa’s name suggests, the mature gardens have tall trees and there is a long driveway leading down to the entrance to the property, which is accessed through electric gates.

The jet-set lifestyle you would probably enjoy if you lived here is within easy reach, with Glasgow Prestwick Airport practically on your doorstep.
