It’s not too late for Prince Harry to make peace

-

I was saddened to read in last week’s Mail on Sunday how the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been accused of ‘spiteful fury’ and of making an ‘ungracious swipe’ at the Queen, following the couple’s statement on whether or not they could use the word ‘Royal’ in their branding.

They were heavily criticised for suggesting that the Government or the Queen would have been powerless to stop them using the word abroad.

Our gracious Queen has bent over backwards to keep the peace between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal Family. But I do feel a degree of sympathy for Harry. It seems he has never got over the tragic loss of his mother.

It is only natural for him to want time and space with his own family. But one day I hope he will say sorry to the Queen and realise that blood is thicker than water. David Courtney, Weston-super-Mare

Prince Harry needs to realise that many people have lost a dear parent when very young, including me, but we don’t go on about it. In life, you need to be positive about the responsibility each and every individual has according to their circumstances, and get on with it. He needs to grow up – fast. Kenneth Underhill, Hereford

Did Meghan just want a Royal title all along? I think so. Harry and Meghan say they left the UK because they wanted to escape press attention, yet they are actively courting media exposure.

I live in Sussex and I’m disappointed in the Duke and Duchess. But it isn’t too late. Clearly, the grass isn’t greener on the other side. Why not put this experience behind them and come back into the fold?

And Meghan should not underestimate the power of a supporting role. It would make her a bigger star. And it would make us proud. S. Martin, East Preston, West Sussex

Like many Royal commentators, Angela Levin last week tried to demonise the Duchess of Sussex, by saying she feared she ‘has put a sliver of ice in Harry’s heart’. But it doesn’t wash. Harry and Meghan have decided to abide by the Queen’s wishes and not use the ‘Sussex Royal’ title abroad out of respect.

If there has been any spiteful behaviour on display, it is certainly not from them.

As Earl Spencer once said when talking of his sister

Diana, she needed no Royal title to generate her particular brand of magic, and neither do Harry and Meghan. Diane Silva, Bournemouth

At an event last week, Prince Harry indicated that he wished to be called ‘just Harry’. Does he not realise that, as ‘just Harry’, he wouldn’t be the person giving that speech? Kathleen Bramwell, Lydney, Gloucestershire
