Posh: Revealing dresses hid my insecurity

- By Katie Hind

TIGHT and low-cut corset-style dresses were once a staple of Victoria Beckham’s wardrobe.

But the former Spice Girl, left, has revealed that those fashion choices were a result of her feeling insecure about herself as she became one of he most famous women in the world.

In a magazine interview, Ms Beckham, 46, revealed: ‘I used to wear lots of structured dresses with corsetry, and I do still have some of those dresses, but my personal style has become more relaxed. Looking back, I guess it was a sign of insecurity that I would always wear clothes that were very tight, very fitted. My confidence has definitely grown as I’ve got older.

‘I know what works on me, what looks good, what makes me feel confident and comfortable.

‘I don’t feel I have anything to prove now in the way I dress.’

Ms Beckham, who has carved out a career as a fashion designer since leaving the Spice Girls, famously did not wear flat shoes, but she says as her fashion business took off she began to wear trousers and trainers. She and her footballer husband David, 45, are currently spending lockdown at their second home in the Oxfordshire countryside with three of their four children.

But despite having £335 million in the bank, she says she still finds things overwhelming.

Asked by a fashion student as part of an interview with The Guardian’s Weekend magazine if she ever gets ‘creatively blocked,’ she replied: ‘Sometimes I can get a little bit overwhelmed. There’s just so much to do, with eyewear and beauty and everything else.’
