TV FILMS OF THE WEEK
ROMANCING THE STONE
Monday, Film4, 6.40pm
The wonderful Kathleen Turner plays a romantic novelist, while charismatic Michael Douglas is a roguish mercenary. The script is sharp, the romantic undercurrents a delight. Huge, muddy fun.
THE LADY IN THE VAN
Monday, BBC4, 10pm
An eccentric older woman – beautifully played by Maggie Smith – gets the rusting van she calls home pushed onto the driveway owned by the playwright Alan Bennett. She stays for the next 15 years. Unexpectedly delightful.
CREED
Tuesday, 5*, 9pm
Rocky Balboa’s opponent in the first two Rocky films was Apollo Creed, hence the title of this reboot. Michael B. Jordan is terrific as Apollo’s illegitimate son, Adonis, a young man who discovers that boxing is in his blood but needs a trainer. Gosh, who will that be?
COME BACK TO THE 5 & DIME, JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN
Tuesday, Talking Pictures, 10pm
A group of female James Dean fans comes together to mark the 20th anniversary of his death in a car crash. The great Robert Altman directs a cast led by Cher, Karen Black and Sandy Dennis.
SO I MARRIED AN AXE MURDERER
Wednesday, Sony Movies, 5.05pm
Mike Myers plays a San Francisco beat poet whose new girlfriend might just have a sideline in murdering her boyfriends. Strange but very funny.

BORG VS MCENROE
Friday, BBC2, 11.20pm
Wimbledon should have been about to start now. This dramatisation of the run-up to the epic men’s final of 1980 between champion Borg and fiery McEnroe offers consolation.
